Zderzenie z kosmosem. Opowiadanie „Horla” Guy de Maupassanta jako model konfrontacji z niemożliwym na tle wybranych przykładów z literatury fantastyki grozy XIX i XX wieku

Główną osią pracy jest analiza struktury typowej dla literackiej fantastyki grozy - konfrontacja bohatera z elementem, którego pojawienie się uznawane jest za niemożliwe z punktu widzenia świata przedstawionego odpowiadającego realnej rzeczywistości. Punktem wyjścia jest analiza opowiadania Horla Guya de Maupassanta, dzieła ważnego dla rozwoju konwencji i będącego przedmiotem licznych odwołań, celem wyabstrahowania kluczowych elementów interesującej mnie struktury fabularnej: postać świadka-ofiary, specyfika elementu niemożliwego i konsekwencje konfrontacji z nim. W pracy przytoczony zostaje kontekst historycznoliteracki i biograficzny powstania utworu, celem rekonstrukcji filozoficznego jego podłoża. W dalszej części pracy analizie poddane są działa Karola Irzykowskiego, Stefana Grabińskiego i Howarda Philipsa Lovecrafta pod kontem modelu konfrontacji z niemożliwym. Wybranych pisarzy i ich dzieła łączą bezpośrednie i pośrednie nawiązania do opowiadania Horla Guya de Maupassanta. Celem analizy jest wykazanie różnic i podobieństw w sposobie opracowania konstrukcji fabularnej opartej na konfrontacji z niemożliwym i zwrócenie uwagi na literacki dialog i przepływ motywów w obrębie konwencji fantastyki grozy i jej pogranicza.

The main axis of this work is an analysis of the structure typical for literary horror fiction – the protagonist's confrontation with an element which appearance is considered impossible from the perspective of the presented world, which corresponds to reality. The starting point is an analysis of Guy de Maupassant's short story The Horla, a work important in the development of the convention and the subject of numerous references. The aim is to abstract the key elements of the narrative structure in question: the witness-victim figure, the specificity of the impossible element, and the consequences of confronting it. The work provides a historical, literary, and biographical context for the work's creation to reconstruct its philosophical foundations. Subsequently, the work of Karol Irzykowski, Stefan Grabiński, and Howard Philips Lovecraft is analyzed in light of the model of confrontation with the impossible. The selected writers and their works are linked by direct and indirect references to Guy de Maupassant's short story The Horla The aim of the analysis is to demonstrate the differences and similarities in the way of developing a plot structure based on confrontation with the impossible and to draw attention to the literary dialogue and the flow of motifs within the convention of literary horror fiction and its borderlands.
