Biblia Leopolity (1561): Próba rozróżnienia pracy anonimowego tłumacza i redaktora Jana Nicza ze Lwowa (na podstawie tekstu Listów Apostolskich)

Abstrakt (EN)

The article investigates two textual layers of the 1561 Leopolita Bible—one of anonymous translation and the other of Jan Nicz Leopolita’s revision—through compara tive analysis of its Epistles with the late Vulgate, the Czech Melantrich Bible (1549, 1556), and other sources: Erasmus’s Greek Latin New Testament, Biblia cum glossa, and Polish versions of the period. Mistranslations and lapses discussed in the study point to the anonymous translator’s dependence on the 1549 Melantrich Bible as the source text. Editorial interventions by Leopolita, such as parenthetical additions and partial syntactic modifications, reveal some properties of the anonymous manuscript and of its revision. The proposed stratifica tion allows for a partial characterisation of the Anony mous and Leopolita’s biblical scholarship and translation strategies, suggests a post 1549 dating of the manu script, and supports the identification of the Anonymous with Leonard Niezabitowski OFP.
