Abstrakt (EN)
Th e article discusses the paradoxes of existence as represented in Diaries of Yevhen Malanyuk (1897–1968), one of the most infl uential Ukrainian poets and intellectuals of the twentieth century. Taking into account Malanyuk’s biography and poetic heritage, three types of the image of “the author” have been distinguished: the internal author (Malanyuk’s voice presented in his personal papers and writings not meant for publication), the external author (Malanyuk’s perception by his contemporaries), and the refl ected author (Malanyuk’s voice revealed in his publications). Malanyuk’s Diaries present the image of the internal author, which diff ers from the image readers are accustomed to encounter in his published works. In Diaries paradoxes are revealed in Malanyuk’s attitude towards his contemporaries, friends, political and historical events.
