Sport jako narzędzie polityki doby rywalizacji zimnowojennej

Praca koncentruje się na zbadaniu politycznego wykorzystania sportu w trakcie zimnej wojny. Centralną tezą badawczą było założenie, iż sport stanowił narzędzie gry politycznej w tym okresie rywalizacji. Do realizacji celu badawczego wykorzystano metodę jakościową, opartą na deskryptywnej analizie materiałów źródłowych i literatury przedmiotu. W toku badań ustalono, że sport był postrzegany jako zjawisko społeczno-polityczne i element soft power państw, służący budowaniu wizerunku i promowaniu ideologii. W państwach bloku wschodniego (ZSRR, NRD, PRL) sport pod ścisłą kontrolą partii, był kluczowym narzędziem konsolidacji władzy, indoktrynacji i propagandy, mając dowieść wyższości systemu socjalistycznego i przynieść międzynarodowe uznanie. Znaczenie miały także wydarzenia takie jak Wyścig Pokoju, a rywalizacja na arenie międzynarodowej, szczególnie na igrzyskach olimpijskich, przybrała formę „bezkrwawej wojny. Bojkot igrzysk w Moskwie (1980) i Los Angeles (1984) stanowił jaskrawy przejaw ingerencji polityki w sport, często ze szkodą dla samych sportowców. Zaobserwowano także napiętą rywalizację wewnątrz bloku wschodniego, odzwierciedlającą narodowe ambicje i tarcia. Problemem upolitycznienia sportu pozostaje jednak jego wpływ na postrzeganie państw niedemokratycznych, poprzez m.in. zjawisko sportswashingu.

The paper focuses on examining the political use of sports during the Cold War. The central research thesis was that sports were a tool of the political game during this period of competition. A qualitative method based on descriptive analysis of source materials and literature was used to achieve the research objective. The research found that sports were seen as a socio-political phenomenon and an element of soft power of states for image building and ideology promotion. In the Eastern Bloc countries (USSR, GDR, Polish People's Republic), sports, under the strict control of the party, were a key tool for power consolidation, indoctrination and propaganda, aiming to prove the superiority of the socialist system and bring international recognition. Events such as the Peace Race were also significant, and international competition, particularly at the Olympic Games, took the form of a bloodless war. The boycotts of the Moscow (1980) and Los Angeles (1984) Games were a glaring manifestation of the interference of politics in sports, often to the detriment of the athletes themselves. Tense rivalries within the Eastern Bloc were also observed, reflecting national ambitions and frictions. The problem of the politicization of sports, however, remains its impact on the perception of non-democratic countries, through, among other things, the phenomenon of sportswashing.
