Memoires and historical commentaries on the way to The Trinity Lavra of St. Sergiusby Nikolay Karamzin (1766-1826) is a historical sketch and description of the journey from Moscow to The Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius (“Vestnik Evropy”, 1802, No 15-17). The article consists of three parts: 1. Presentation of the sketch from a perspective of theme and concept of the traveller (travel itinerary, history of Russia and its rulers), 2. The sketch in the structure of the periodical “Vestnik Evropy” (“Literature and miscellaneous” sec-tion), 3. The sketch among the works by Karamzin, prose writer and historian (historical issues in the prose and periodicals, Letters of a Russian traveller, History of the Russian State, Karamzin as “the Columbus of the Russian history” and “the Columbus of the Russian Province”).
