Representations of teenage life in American TV series of the 21st century

Celem niniejszej pracy dyplomowej jest analiza wybranych seriali telewizyjnych, przedstawiających dorastanie w kulturze popularnej. Badanie przeprowadzi teoretyczną analizę wybranych seriali: Riverdale, Glee oraz Euphoria, poprzedzając szczegółową analizę każdego z nich, skupiając się na fabule, postaciach i walorach edukacyjnych. Przedstawione problemy będą dotyczyć kwestii emocjonalnych, społecznych i wychowawczych. Ocena wartości edukacyjnej ujawnia zarówno pozytywne, jak i negatywne aspekty przedstawiania nastolatków w amerykańskiej telewizji. Badanie opisane w tej pracy zapewnia wgląd we wzajemne oddziaływanie kultury popularnej, telewizji i społecznego postrzegania życia nastolatków w XXI wieku, zapewniając holistyczny punkt widzenia z implikacjami dla edukacji młodzieży.

The aim of this thesis is to analyse selected television series depicting adolescence in popular culture. The study will conduct a theoretical analysis of the selected series: Riverdale, Glee and Euphoria, preceding a detailed analysis of each of them, focusing on the plot, characters and educational values. The issues presented will address emotional, social and educational issues. An assessment of educational value reveals both positive and negative aspects of the portrayal of teenagers on American television. The study described in this thesis provides insight into the interplay of popular culture, television and social perceptions of teenage life in the 21st century, providing a holistic viewpoint with implications for adolescent education.
