The use of visual materials created with selected online tools to teach vocabulary to 2nd and 3rd graders in a primary school

Głównym celem pracy jest zaprezentowanie efektów wykorzystywania materiałów wizualnych na lekcjach języka angielskiego w szkołach podstawowych. Praca koncentruje się na pokazaniu narzędzi i materiałów dostępnych online, które nauczyciele mogą wykorzystać do prezentacji słownictwa w klasie drugiej i trzeciej. Wybór tematu spowodowany był rosnącymi możliwościami, jakie daje rozwój technologii oraz pytaniem, w jaki sposób można ją wykorzystać do tworzenia ciekawych i efektywnych lekcji języka angielskiego jako obcego dla młodych uczniów, ze szczególnym naciskiem na nauczanie słownictwa w klasach pierwszych szkół podstawowych. Praca składa się z dwóch rozdziałów, których celem jest dostarczenie przydatnych informacji nauczycielom zainteresowanym tworzeniem wzbogacających i wartościowych lekcji dla swoich uczniów. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawiona jest charakterystyka drugo- i trzecioklasistów, cechy dobrych nauczycieli, różne metody prezentacji i ćwiczenia słownictwa oraz narzędzia internetowe, które mogą być przydatne do tworzenia materiałów wizualnych. Drugi rozdział zawiera materiały, które mogą pomóc w uzupełnieniu istniejącej luki w materiałach dydaktycznych wykorzystywanych przez nauczycieli języka angielskiego. Załączony pakiet materiałów może zostać wykorzystany przez nauczycieli do wzbogacenia lekcji, zwiększenia zaangażowania i promowania twórczego myślenia nie tylko uczniów, ale także nauczycieli. Praca zawiera także instrukcje dotyczące korzystania z opracowanych materiałów i wnioski dotyczące nauczania słownictwa i wykorzystania materiałów dodatkowych w szkołach podstawowych.

The main aim of this work is to present the effects of including visual materials in English language lessons in primary schools. It is focused on showing online tools and materials that teachers can use to present vocabulary in second and third grade. The choice of the topic was caused by growing possibilities given by the development of technology and the question of how it can be used to create interesting and profitable lessons of English as a foreign language for young learners, with the focus on teaching vocabulary in the first grades of Polish primary schools. Some teachers worry that technology may replace them, but it rather gives a possibility to create more successful and engaging materials that help students practise and remember vocabulary better. The paper consists of two chapters that are aimed to provide useful information for teachers who are interested in creating enriching and valuable lessons for their young learners. The first chapter presents the characteristics of young learners, the characteristics of good teachers, different methods of presenting and practising vocabulary and online tools that can be useful for teachers to create visual materials for their students. The second chapter provides materials that can help in filling the existing gap in resources used by public school English teachers. The attached resource pack can be used by teachers to enrich lessons and provide materials that can be used to stimulate more senses and promote creative thinking not only for learners but also for teachers. It also contains instructions on the use of the Resource Pack. The paper ends with conclusions on the topic of teaching vocabulary and the use of additional materials in Polish primary schools.
