Title: Utopian robinsonades in Portugal and in Poland: The City of Sun (A Cidade do Sol, 1926), by José Manuel Sarmento de Beires, and The adventures of Mikołaj Doświadczyński (Mikołaja Doświadczyńskiego przypadki, 1776), by bishop Ignacy Krasicki, or a new post-Camoenian utopia in the globalized world? The article represents the following romanesque utopias: the topoi of the Love Island in the epic poem by Luís Vaz de Camões, of the Nipu island in The Adventures of Mikołaj Doświadczyński by bishop Ignacy Krasicki and in The City of Sun (A Cidade do Sol), imagined by José Manuel Sarmento de Beires. It is about travel literature or utopian robinsonades framed into the world globalization, as well as about the history of the romance genre, starting in Poland (1776) and developed in Portugal (1926). After the term and the concept of utopia have been thoroughly worked-out standing from the bucolic episode supra of The Lusiads (Os Lusíadas, 1572), we propose to consider the two utopian robinsonades in question as late transformations of the pattern and the functionality of locus amoenus, with a possible social connotation (in Poland) and a political meaning (in Portugal), even though the historic background seems hidden in the respective layers of narrative discourse. It should be very interesting to perceive, too, to what extent the utopian romanesque structure captures the state of spirit of a people in the moment of triumph and also in the generalized national depression of heroes, travellers, colonists, priests, aviators et al. – in one word, of the antique and contemporary Robinsons.
