Motyw wędrówki duchowej jako element literatury chrześcijańskiej: analiza komparatystyczna Boskiej Komedii Dantego Alighieri oraz The Pilgrim’s Regress i The Great Divorce C. S. Lewisa

Niniejsza praca bada motyw wędrówki duchowej jako trwały element literatury chrześcijańskiej na podstawie analizy komparatystycznej Boskiej Komedii Dantego Alighieri oraz The Pilgrim’s Regress i The Great Divorce C. S. Lewisa. Analiza zostanie dokonana, opierając się na założeniu, że motyw ten funkcjonuje jako struktura narracyjna i etyczna. Zachowuje ona jednak rozpoznawalną formę pomimo różnic w jej literackiej realizacji wynikających ze względu na uwarunkowania historyczne i kulturowe. Aby dowieść trwałości i znaczenia tego motywu w literaturze chrześcijańskiej, zbadany zostanie sposób przedstawienia duchowej drogi w literaturze średniowiecznej i nowoczesnej na podstawie aspektów takich jak: wpływ autorytetu narracyjnego oraz emocji narratora na zaangażowanie interpretacyjne odbiorcy; rola postaci przewodnika w procesie formacji etycznej bohatera i czytelnika; sposób przedstawienia przestrzeni wędrówki duchowej jako odzwierciedlenie porządku moralnego i teologicznego. Celem pracy jest zatem przeanalizowanie funkcjonowania motywu wędrówki duchowej w wybranych tekstach oraz wykazanie jak różnice historyczne i światopoglądowe wpływają na jego literacką realizację.

This study examines the motif of the spiritual journey as a recurring element in Christian literature through a comparative analysis of Dante Alighieri’s The Divine Comedy and C. S. Lewis’s The Pilgrim’s Regress and The Great Divorce. The analysis will be conducted on the premise that this motif functions as both a narrative and an ethical structure. However, it retains a recognisable form despite differences in its literary realisation resulting from historical and cultural conditions. To demonstrate the permanence and significance of this motif in Christian literature, the presentation of the spiritual journey in medieval and modern literature will be examined based on aspects such as: the influence of narrative authority and the narrator’s emotions on the reader’s interpretive engagement; the role of the guide figure in the process of the ethical formation of the protagonist and the reader; the manner of presenting the space of the spiritual journey as a reflection of the moral and theological order. The aim of this study is therefore to analyse the functioning of the motif of the spiritual journey in selected texts and to demonstrate how historical and worldview differences influence its literary realisation.
