Romantasy jako współczesne zjawisko literackie

Praca analizuje fenomen romantasy jako nowego gatunku literackiego, który łączy elementy fantasy i romansu, dostosowując je do potrzeb współczesnych czytelników. Celem badania było zdefiniowanie romantasy, zbadanie jego literackich korzeni oraz przedstawienie kontekstów społeczno-kulturowych, w których funkcjonuje, zarówno globalnie, jak i na rynku polskim. W oparciu o podejścia strukturalistyczne i konstruktywistyczne, praca omawia procesy, które wpływają na kształtowanie się gatunków literackich oraz analizuje, w jaki sposób romantasy redefiniuje tradycyjne formy literatury popularnej. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawiono teoretyczne podstawy literatury gatunkowej, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem strukturalistycznej charakterystyki literatury oraz konstruktywistycznej definicji gatunku. Drugi rozdział poświęcony został analizie fantasy. Omówiono tradycyjne elementy fantasy, takie jak archetypiczne motywy, magia i rozbudowane światotwórstwo, oraz w jaki sposób te funkcjonuje literatura egzomimetyczna i fantastyczna. W trzecim rozdziale skoncentrowano się na romantasy. Wskazano, że rozwój tego gatunku dokonuje się dzięki nowym mediom, takim jak BookTok czy Goodreads. Wskazano także na motywy łączące romantasy z fantasy i romansem. Następnie nakreślono specyfikę polskiego rynku wydawniczego, na którym romantasy, choć obecne jako literatura tłumaczona, dopiero zaczyna znajdować miejsce w rodzimej twórczości. Praca ukazuje, że romantasy to więcej niż połączenie dwóch literackich tradycji. To zjawisko literackie, które odpowiada na potrzeby młodych czytelniczek, łącząc eskapizm z refleksją nad relacjami międzyludzkimi i współczesnymi problemami społecznymi. Jednocześnie gatunek ten czerpie z wciąż żywej tradycji literackiej fantasy i romansu. Wnioski wskazują na rosnącą rolę mediów społecznościowych w kształtowaniu literackich trendów oraz na możliwości rozwoju tego gatunku w kontekście rosnącego zainteresowania literaturą gatunkową nie tylko w Polsce.

The thesis analyzes the phenomenon of romantasy as a new literary genre that combines elements of fantasy and romance, adapting them to the needs of modern readers. The aim of the study was to define romantasy, examine its literary roots and present the socio-cultural contexts in which it functions, both globally and in the Polish market. Using structuralist and constructivist approaches, the thesis discusses the processes that influence the formation of literary genres and analyzes how romance redefines traditional forms of popular literature. The first chapter presents the theoretical background of the genre of literature, with particular emphasis on the structuralist characterization of literature and the constructivist definition of genre. The second chapter is devoted to the analysis of fantasy. Traditional fantasy elements such as archetypal themes, magic and extended worldbuilding were discussed, as well as how these function in exomimetic and fantasy literature. The third chapter focuses on romantasy. It was pointed out that the development of this genre is happening because of new media, such as BookTok and Goodreads. The themes linking romantasy with fantasy and romance were also pointed out. Next, the specifics of the Polish publishing market are outlined, where romance, although present as translated literature, is only beginning to find a place in domestic works. The thesis shows that romantasy is far more than a combination of two literary traditions. It is a literary phenomenon that responds to the needs of young female readers, combining escapism with reflection on human relations and contemporary social problems. At the same time, the genre draws on the still vibrant literary traditions of fantasy and romance. The conclusions point to the growing role of social media in shaping literary trends, as well as the potential for the development of this genre in the context of the growing interest in genre literature not only in Poland.
