Tadeusz Kowalski - Ibrahim ibn Yaqub’s Account of His Travel to Slavic Countries as Transmitted by Al-Bakri: With Contemporary Commentaries edited by Mustafa Switat

Th is is the fi rst English translation of critical edition of Ibrahim ibn Yaqub’s account of a trip to Slavic countries by Tadeusz Kowalski – published in Polish in 1946. It was Tadeusz Kowalski who not only translated (from Arabic) and interpreted Ibrahim ibn Yaqub’s Account of His Travel to Slavic Countries as Transmitted by Al- Bakri , recreated the biographical identity of Ibrahim ibn Yaqub from Tortosa and set a date for his trip. Ibrahim ibn Yaqub’s Account… is one of the most interesting and most frequently cited sources of the history of Central and East- Central Europe. Despite the passage of years, this study is still an extremely important source for research of early medieval Slavic history.
