Entre pathos et logos : stratégies argumentatives dans une brochure de l’association « Union étudiante »

Przedmiotem niniejszej pracy licencjackiej są strategie argumentacyjne w dyskursie wybranego manifestu. Postawiono następujące pytania badawcze: jak w argumentacji przejawia się logos oraz pathos, czy te dwie metody perswazji mogą się przenikać oraz w jaki sposób to następuje. W części teoretycznej zdefiniowano manifest jako gatunek dyskursu, argumentację, logos oraz jego elementy – przykład i entymemat, pathos i jego elementy – wybrane figury retoryczne oraz przejawy manipulacji w dyskursie. W części analitycznej zbadano, jak te elementy przejawiają się w korpusie, którym jest broszura opublikowana przez francuskie stowarzyszenie studenckie Union étudiante. Wyniki przeprowadzonej analizy wskazują, że logos i pathos przenikają się, między innymi za sprawą argumentacji opartej na emocjach oraz za sprawą wartości argumentacyjnej figur retorycznych. Te rozważania pozwoliły na analizę materiału pod kątem manipulacji, co wykazało, że jest ona ściśle powiązana z argumentacją opartą na emocjach.

The subject of this thesis is the analysis of argumentative strategies in discourse. The research addresses the following questions: how do logos and pathos manifest in argumentation, whether the two modes of persuasion can interpenetrate one another and if so, how does it occur? In the theoretical section, the following concepts were defined: a manifesto as a discursive field, argumentation, logos and its elements – the example and the enthymeme, pathos and its elements – chosen rhetorical figures and manipulative tendencies in discourse. The analytical section examined how these elements manifest in the corpus, which consists of a brochure published by the French student association Union étudiante. The results of the analysis indicate that logos and pathos intertwine, particularly through highly emotional argumentation or the argumentative value of rhetorical figures. These findings enabled an analysis of the corpus in terms of manipulation, revealing that it is closely linked to the highly emotional argumentation.

Ce mémoire porte sur l’analyse des stratégies argumentatives dans le discours. Les questions de recherche suivantes ont été formulées : comment le pathos et le logos se manifestent-ils dans le discours, peuvent-ils s'interpénétrer et comment cela s’effectue ? Le cadre théorique définit les concepts suivants : le manifeste comme genre discursif, l’argumentation, le logos et ses éléments – l’exemple et l’enthymème, le pathos et ses éléments - les figures rhétoriques choisies ainsi que les mécanismes de manipulation dans le discours. Dans la partie analytique, nous avons étudié la manière dont ces éléments se manifestent dans le corpus, qui se compose d’une brochure publiée par le syndicat étudiant français l’Union étudiante. Les résultats d’analyse indiquent que le logos et le pathos se croisent, notamment à travers une argumentation à forte charge émotionnelle et par la valeur argumentative des figures rhétoriques. Ces observations ont permis d’analyser le corpus sous l’angle de la manipulation, ce qui a montré qu’elle est étroitement liée à une argumentation émotionnellement marquée.
