Wokół warszawskich wydań rosyjskich przekładów pism Adama Mickiewicza pióra Nikołaja Berga

Nikolai Berg (1823-1884) was a teacher of Russian language and literature at the Main School and the University of Warsaw from 1868, the author of Notes on Polish conspiracies and uprisings 1831-1862 and of the first Russian complete translation of Adam Mickiewicz's Pan Tadeusz and translations of numerous lyrical poems and fragments of Mickiewicz's other works. Most of his translations were published in Warsaw in two volumes in 1865 and 1875. This article presents Berg's attitude towards Polish culture and his relations with Poles, shows the history of the two Warsaw books, looking at earlier publications in Russian magazines and anthologies, relationship wih Berg's world view and his attitude to Mickiewicz, the role of Antoni Edward Odyiec, the censorship conditions in Russia and in the Russian partition of Poland.
