Stereotypizacja płci w fotografiach prasowych na przykładzie World Press Photo of the Year w latach 2000-2024

Problematyka podjętych badań oraz rozważań teoretycznych opiera się na hipotezie, że fotografie prasowe nagrodzone tytułem World Press Photo of the Year powielają istniejące stereotypy płciowe. Podjęta analiza ma na celu rozstrzygnięcie, czy istotnie można zauważyć wskazane zjawisko na wyróżnionych zdjęciach nagrodzonych w latach 2000-2024. W pracy znajdują się dwa rozdziały teoretyczne, poświęcone pojęciu i historii fotografii prasowej oraz przyjętym definicjom stereotypów i płci, a także podsumowujące dotychczasowe badania nad stereotypizacją płci w mediach i w fotografii prasowej. Następnie określono cel i pytania badawcze, a także opisano metodologię. W rozdziale czwartym szczegółowo rozpisano wyniki analizy. Zwieńczeniem pracy stała się próba określenia potencjalnych powodów takiego sposobu reprezentowania płci w fotografii prasowej oraz sugestia ewentualnych zmian, które mogłyby pomóc w ograniczaniu stereotypizacji w zdjęciach prasowych w przyszłych latach.

The issues of the undertaken research and theoretical considerations are based on the hypothesis that press photographs awarded the World Press Photo of the Year title replicate existing gender stereotypes. The analysis aims to decide whether the indicated phenomenon can be noticed in the distinguished photos awarded in the years 2000-2024. The work contains two theoretical chapters, devoted to the concept and history of press photography and the adopted definitions of stereotypes and gender, as well as summarizing previous research on gender stereotyping in the media and in press photography. Then, the purpose and research questions are defined, and the methodology is described. The fourth chapter describes the results of the analysis. The culmination of the work was an attempt to determine the potential reasons for this way of representing gender in press photography and a suggestion of possible changes that could help reduce gender stereotyping in press photos in the future.
