Candy, Chocolate... Some Remarks on the Naming Methods of Sweets in Hungarian and Polish. The aim of this paper is to examine the names of sweet brands, which are currently produced by confectionary companies in Hungary and Poland, and which are available on the internal market. The language corpus contains 550 chrematonims. Among them there are twice as many Polish names as Hungarian. This is due to the fact that the confectionery market in Poland is more developed. Chrematonims can be classified with regard to the grammatical form as well as different thematic groups (e.g. proper nouns, geographical names, names related to sports or music). The latest trend in Polish is the use of foreign (English, Italian and French) terms as brands’ names. Such methods as language games, contaminations or the use of acronyms are present both in Hungarian as well as in the Polish way of naming.
