Między starym i nowym. O sposobach modernizowania przestrzeni publicznych

The main purpose of the article is to present several more important models of modernization, which the urban space in Warsaw after 1989 covered, with particular emphasis on the different treatment of objects typical of late modernism in the Third Republic, also known as socmodernism. The considerations refer to the four types of social change distinguished in the context of historical institutionalism: survival and return, reproduction through adaptation, gradual transformation, disintegration and replacement. The author, for his part, distinguishes four general and seven more detailed modernization options and shows their various urban-architectural illustrations present in the Warsaw public space.
