La campagna polacca nel metatesto italiano. La traduzione degli elementi culturospecifici de I contadini di Władysław Reymont

W niniejszej pracy przeprowadziłam analizę tłumaczenia elementów kultury polskiej obecnych w powieści Chłopi Władysława Reymonta na język włoski. W pierwszym rozdziale przedstawiłam sylwetkę autora, obejmującą najważniejsze informacje dotyczące jego życia i twórczości, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem powieści Chłopi oraz przyznania Władysławowi Reymontowi Nagrody Nobla w dziedzinie literatury. Omówiłam również kontekst historyczno-literacki powstania utworu, jego główne tematy oraz charakterystyczne cechy stylu. Drugi rozdział poświęciłam najważniejszym zagadnieniom z zakresu teorii przekładu. Na podstawie rozważań takich badaczy jak Lawrence Venuti, Peter Newmark oraz Krzysztof Hejwowski omówiłam między innymi pojęcie ekwiwalencji, koncepcję elementów kulturowych oraz wybrane techniki tłumaczeniowe na podstawie klasyfikacji zaproponowanej przez Hejwowskiego. W trzecim, analitycznym rozdziale podjęłam próbę przeanalizowania przekładu elementów kulturowych na podstawie dwóch włoskich tłumaczeń powieści: przekładu Aurory Beniamino z 1928-32 roku oraz tłumaczenia Vincenzo Guarnacci i Luigiego Taroniego z 1949 roku. W celu zbadania ewentualnych zależności między poszczególnymi wersjami uwzględniłam również przekład francuski autorstwa Francka Schoella.

In this thesis, I conducted an analysis of the translation of elements of Polish culture present in Władysław Reymont’s novel The Peasants into Italian. In the first chapter, I presented the author’s profile, including the most important information concerning his life and literary work, with particular emphasis on The Peasants and the awarding of the Nobel Prize in Literature to Władysław Reymont. I also discussed the historical and literary context in which the novel was written, its main themes, and the distinctive features of its style. The second chapter is devoted to the key issues in translation theory. Drawing on the work of scholars such as Lawrence Venuti, Peter Newmark, and Krzysztof Hejwowski, I discussed, among other topics, the concept of equivalence, the notion of cultural elements, and selected translation techniques based on the classification proposed by Hejwowski. In the third, analytical chapter, I attempted to analyze the translation of cultural elements on the basis of two Italian translations of the novel: Aurora Beniamino’s 1932 translation and the translation by Vincenzo Guarnaccia and Luigi Taroni published in 1949. In order to examine possible relationships between the individual versions, I also took into account the French translation by Franck Schoell.

In questo lavoro ho condotto un’analisi della traduzione degli elementi della cultura polacca presenti nel romanzo I contadini di Władysław Reymont in italiano. Nel primo capitolo ho presentato la figura dell’autore, includendo le informazioni più importanti relative alla sua vita e alle sue opere, con particolare attenzione al romanzo I contadini e all’assegnazione del Premio Nobel per la Letteratura al suo Autore. Ho inoltre illustrato il contesto storico-letterario della nascita dell’opera, i suoi temi principali e le caratteristiche distintive del suo stile. Il secondo capitolo è dedicato alle principali questioni nell’ambito della teoria della traduzione. Sulla base delle riflessioni di studiosi quali Lawrence Venuti, Peter Newmark e Krzysztof Hejwowski, ho discusso, tra l’altro, il concetto di equivalenza, la nozione di elementi culturali e tecniche traduttive selezionate sulla base della classificazione proposta da Hejwowski. Nel terzo capitolo, di carattere analitico, ho cercato di analizzare la traduzione degli elementi culturali sulla base di due traduzioni italiane del romanzo: la traduzione di Aurora Beniamino del 1932 e la traduzione di Vincenzo Guarnaccia e Luigi Taroni del 1949. Al fine di esaminare eventuali relazioni tra le singole versioni, ho preso in considerazione anche la traduzione francese di Franck Schoell.
