Analysis of the ultra-peripheral events in heavy-ion collisions in the CMS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider

This thesis presents the first measurement of the total cross-section of the coherent ultra-peripheral photoproduction of the meson in lead-lead collisions at p sNN = 5:02 TeV. The data used in the analysis has been collected in 2018 by the CMS experiment at the CERN’s Lage Hadron Collider. The considered channel is the muon decay of the
meson, ! + 􀀀�. The obtained value of the total cross-section is PbPb! (1S);coh = 38:4 6:2 (stat) 3:6 (syst) b. This process is sensitive to the nuclear Parton Distribution Functions for gluons.
