Socio-cultural Background and Pragmatic Value of English Loanwords in Modern Chinese
Abstrakt (EN)
This research summarizes the historical development of English loanwords in Chinese, showing that they are the result of a linguistic fusion, and as China’s communications with other countries becomes more frequent, the field and number of English loanwords will continue to increase. Through the classification and summary of the main forms of loanwords, it shows that loanwords are widespread in Chinese and have a profound impact on the vocabulary system. Analyzing the social and cultural background for the introduction of loanwords into China proves that the needs of social groups have led to the introduction of loanwords into the Chinese system. Summarizing the value of loanwords in pragmatics further shows that loanwords have become a part of modern Chinese vocabulary and are used more and more frequently in daily life. By analyzing the negative and positive effects of English loanwords in Chinese shows that the influence of loanwords is diverse, including the increase in the way Chinese words are made and the expansion of Chinese vocabulary, but it also makes the Chinese language system more complicated.
