W części Note sull’autrice i sull’opera (Uwagi o autorce i utworze) zaprezentowano sylwetkę Anny Adamowicz, jej twórczość poetycką oraz najważniejsze cechy tomu WĄTPIA.

This thesis focuses on the translation from Polish into Italian of WĄTPIA, a poetry collection by Anna Adamowicz published by Kwadratura (Łódź) in 2016. In addition to describing the translation process of the thirty poems included in the volume, the study reconstructs the work of research, analysis and commentary that accompanied it. The introductory notes present Adamowicz, her poetic output and the main features of WĄTPIA. The author employs technical terms from anatomical and medical language, which she combines with artistic, cultural and historical references. Adamowicz’s poetry assigns a prominent role to the body, viewed in its material dimension and, at the same time, imbued with symbolic meanings. The centrality of this theme is also reflected in the very structure of WĄTPIA, which evokes an anatomical atlas, inviting readers to approach each poem as part of a complex system. The first chapter outlines the theoretical perspectives of Roman Jakobson, James S. Holmes, Jiří Levý, Jadwiga Miszalska and Stanisław Barańczak, which contribute to defining poetic translation as a process grounded in a thorough understanding of the source text, in the identification of priorities and in the search for creative solutions. On this basis, a set of operational hypotheses is formulated to guide the translation of WĄTPIA. The second chapter examines the main asymmetries between Polish and Italian, related to word order, morphosyntactic structure, and the phonetic and phonological dimensions of language. It then discusses their consequences for translation practice: the tendency toward textual expansion in the interlingual transfer, the frequent loss of grammatical markers – especially those of gender – and the need to rework the sound structure of the texts. These phenomena are particularly significant in poetry, where syntax, rhythm and sound effects directly participate in the construction of meaning. The chapter illustrates, through examples, some of the strategies adopted during the translation process: the pursuit of concision and consistency in versification, attention to the lexical and linguistic register of individual translation choices, and the recovery, by means of compensation, of textual features that cannot be directly reproduced in the target language. Special attention is paid to the rendering of technical terms, culture-specific items and cases of polysemy, as well as to the translation of the collection title and the titles of its sections. The thesis concludes with the Italian versions of WĄTPIA’s poems.
