Manuscript of the Vita of Saint Nino in the Bodleian Library

To the deed of Saint Nino – the Illuminatrix of Georgians – are dedicated many hagiographical writings. They can be grouped as different redactions of the Saint’s Vita. One of such redactions is kept in the Bodleian Library (Marjory Wardrop collection MS.Wordr.e.2). Manuscript is dated by ca. 18th century. In general, it follows the redaction composed by Leonti Mroveli (Georgian historian of the eleventh century) included in the collection of the old Georgian historical writings Kartlis Tskhovreba. Despite a palpable similarity of the text in question with the text by Mroveli, the former shows some discrepancies with the later. Just these specific features of the Vita kept in Bodleian Library attracted my attention and gave me motivation to publish full text of it. This publication might be helpful for the researchers who study the hagiographical cycle dedicated to the deeds of Saint Nino and who aim to represent its full history.
