La traduction en français et en polonais des mots polysémiques, des néologismes et des euphémismes dans le roman Never Let Me Go de Kazuo Ishiguro : une étude à la lumière du concept de « born translated ».

Celem pracy jest analiza, w świetle koncepcji „born translated” sformułowanej przez R. L. Walkowitz, wyrazów polisemicznych, neologizmów oraz eufemizmów, które pojawiają się w powieści autorstwa Kazuo Ishiguro pod tytułem Never Let Me Go oraz jej dwóch tłumaczeniach, na język francuski i na język polski. Badanie jest próbą odpowiedzi na pytanie jakie różnice widoczne są pomiędzy oryginałem oraz jego tłumaczeniami, a także w jaki sposób wpływają one na postrzeganie świata przedstawionego powieści i na jej interpretację. Następnie, biorąc pod uwagę koncepcję „born translated”, badanie ma na celu ustalenie, czy te różnice przyczyniają się do powstania odmiennych wersji jednego tekstu i czy ten fakt może stanowić wartość pozytywną. Aby odpowiedzieć na te pytania, w badaniu zastosowano analizę leksykalno-semantyczną. Praca składa się z trzech części. Najpierw przedstawione zostaną teoretyczne zagadnienia związane z omawianym tematem, do których należą wpływ globalizacji na literaturę, założenia koncepcji „born translated”, twórczość Kazuo Ishiguro, a także tłumaczenie literackie i jego wyzwania, z uwzględnieniem tłumaczenia słów polisemicznych, neologizmów oraz eufemizmów. W następnej kolejności omówiona zostanie analiza korpusu, a na końcu przedstawione zostaną wyniki całego badania.

The purpose of this paper is to analyze, in the view of the “born translated” concept developed by R. L. Walkowitz, polysemous words, neologisms and euphemisms that appear in the novel written by Kazuo Ishiguro titled Never Let Me Go and its two translations, into French and Polish. This study is an attempt to determine what changes emerge between the original work and its two translations, how those variations affect the perception of the world depicted in the book and how they influence the work’s interpretation. Lastly, considering the “born translated” concept, this paper tries to conclude if they create distinct versions of the same text, and whether it can be assessed as something of positive value? This study tries to find answers to these questions with the use of lexical-semantic analysis. Our study consists of three parts. Firstly, we will present theoretical aspects related to this work, which include the influence of globalization on literature, premises of the ”born translated” concept, Kazuo Ishiguro’s writing, as well as literary translation and its challenges, particularly in rendering polysemous words, neologisms and euphemisms. Secondly, we will focus on the analysis of the corpus and in the final chapter we will present the results of our study.

Le présent travail a pour objectif d’analyser, à la lumière du concept de « born translated » développé par Rebecca L. Walkowitz, les mots polysémiques, les néologismes et les euphémismes dans le roman de Kazuo Ishiguro intitulé Never Let Me Go et ses deux traductions en français et en polonais. L’étude cherche à déterminer quels changements apparaissent entre l’original et ses versions traduites, comment ces différences influencent la perception de l’œuvre et quel impact elles ont sur son interprétation. Enfin, en prenant en compte le concept de « born translated », cette étude essaie de trouver une réponse à une question si les traductions constituent des versions apparemment distinctes du même texte et si cela peut être perçu comme une valeur positive. Cette étude tente de répondre à ces questions en employant une analyse lexico-sémantique. Notre étude est divisée en trois parties. Premièrement, nous commencerons par la présentation des aspects théoriques du travail, notamment l’impact de la globalisation sur la littérature, les prémisses du concept de « born translated », l’écriture de Kazuo Ishiguro, ainsi que la traduction littéraire et ses enjeux, en particulier les mots polysémiques, les néologismes et les euphémismes. En second lieu nous passerons à l’analyse du corpus et enfin nous énoncerons les résultats de notre recherche.
