Pismo poświęcone sprawom miejscowym? Obraz Łomży w Echach Płockich i Łomżyńskich w latach 1898-1903

Praca przede wszystkim próbuje zweryfikować, jaką rolę odgrywały w trakcie swojej działalności ,,Echa Płockie i Łomżyńskie” w życiu Łomży, a zarazem zbadać na ile było w rzeczywistości poświęcone ,,sprawom miejscowym”, oraz dlaczego idea pisma prowincjonalnego jednak się nie przyjęła w Łomży na przełomie XIX i XX wieku. Drugie w dziejach pismo łomżyńskie, będące zarazem organem prasowym dla dwóch miast gubernialnych, nie odniosło w Łomży sukcesu, i zakończyło działalność w mieście po niecałych sześciu latach. By znaleźć odpowiedzi na te pytania, praca podejmuje próbę przyjrzenia się obrazowi miasta zawartemu w piśmie przez pryzmat przedstawianych na łamach pisma artykułów i korespondencji dotyczących Łomży. Opinie mieszkańców, korespondencje osób ,,z zewnątrz, problemy Łomży, jej nadzieje i aspiracje, niezrealizowane plany, i wreszcie problemy samego pisma – wszystko to zawarły w sobie ,,Echa, i dzięki temu, są cennym źródłem, pozwalającym na zgłębienie wizerunku Łomży na przełomie wieków w niestandardowy sposób.

The paper primarily attempts to verify the role played by ,,Echa Płockie i Łomżyńskie'' in the life of Łomża during its activity, and at the same time to examine the extent to which if it was actually devoted to ,,local issues'', and why the idea of a provincial journal did not catch on in Łomża at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The second journal in the history of Łomża, which was also the press organ for two provincial towns, was not successful in Łomża, and ceased publishing in the town after less than six years. In order to find answers to these questions, this paper attempts to examine the image of the city presented in the journal through the prism of articles and correspondences concerning Łomża, published in its pages. The opinions of residents, correspondences from ,,outsiders'' , the problems of Łomża, its hopes and aspirations, unrealised plans, and finally the problems of the journal itself – all of this was contained in ,,Echa'' and, thanks to this, it is a valuable source, allowing us to explore the image of Łomża at the turn of the century in an unconventional way.
