Autor

Data publikacji

Analiza pokazuje, że „Todesfuge umożliwia poetyckie mówienie o Zagładzie poprzez kondensację, powtórzenie, paradoks i wielogłosowość, a jednocześnie ukazuje granice pełnego językowego przedstawienia doświadczenia historycznego.

Abstrakt (EN)

This thesis analyzes Paul Celan’s poem “Todesfuge (Death Fugue) in the context of the question raised by Theodor W. Adorno concerning the possibilities and limitations of literature and art after Auschwitz. The first part of the thesis focuses on the structure of the poem and its relationship to the musical form of the fugue, with particular attention to repetition, variation, the so-called Engführung, polyphony, and its rhythmic and sonic organization. The second part presents the biographical and historical context of Celan’s work, including his background, his experience of persecution and forced labor, the loss of his parents, and the relationship between language, silence, and memory. The final part analyzes the poem’s central images and motifs, including the “Black Milk of Morning” (Schwarze Milch der Frühe), the “Grave in the Air” (Grab in den Lüften), Margarete and Shulamith, and the figure of the “Man in the House” (Mann im Haus). The analysis demonstrates that “Todesfuge makes poetic speech about the Shoah possible through condensation, repetition, paradox, and polyphony, while at the same time revealing the limits of a complete linguistic representation of historical experience.
