Praca przedstawia ewolucję więziennictwa od czasów średniowiecza aż do współczesności. Omówione zostały również systemy zabezpieczeń stosowane w polskich zakładach penitencjarnych. Przedstawiono także nowoczesne technologie wykorzystywane w monitoringu i kontroli osadzonych. W dalszej części pracy zdefiniowano przedmiot i cele badań, a także przedstawiono główne problemy badawcze oraz zastosowane metody i narzędzia analizy. Kluczowym elementem pracy jest szczegółowa analiza więzienia w Alcatraz- jego architektury, lokalizacji oraz zastosowanych zabezpieczeń. Praca opisuje także przebieg słynnej ucieczki z tego obiektu, identyfikując jednocześnie systemowe błędy, które umożliwiły ucieczkę skazanym. Dzięki temu możliwe było ukazanie ograniczeń tamtejszych rozwiązań penitencjarnych oraz wskazanie na potrzebę ciągłego rozwoju technologii i metod zabezpieczeń. Praca dostarcza kompleksowego obrazu zmian w więziennictwie oraz pokazuje praktyczne konsekwencje niedoskonałości systemowych na przykładzie jednej z najsłynniejszych ucieczek w historii.

The thesis presents the evolution of the prison system from the Middle Ages to the present day. It discusses the security systems implemented in Polish penitentiary institutions, as well as modern technologies used in the monitoring and control of inmates. The study further defines the research objectives and scope, outlines the main research problems, and describes the methods and analytical tools applied. An essential aspect examined in this study is a detailed analysis of Alcatraz prison—its architecture, location, and the security measures employed. The thesis also recounts the course of the infamous escape from the facility, identifying the systemic flaws that enabled the prisoners to flee. This case study serves to illustrate the limitations of the penitentiary solutions of the time and highlights the ongoing need for the development of more advanced security technologies and methods. The work offers a comprehensive overview of changes within the prison system and demonstrates the practical consequences of systemic shortcomings, using one of the most renowned prison escapes in history as a focal point.
