Abstrakt (EN)
ABSTRACT: This year, the Yanka Kupala National Academic Theater celebrates its 100th anniversary. It is an opportunity to look at the latest history of the theater. The author's focus is on the period from 1991 to 2008, when W. Rajeuski was the artistic director of the group. As an artistic director, W. Rajeuski assumed that the main Belarusian scene should pursue two main lines. The first is the promotion of native drama that has entered the canon of Belarusian literature. The second is the presentation of masterpieces of European renowned drama authors. The subject of the study of this text are two stage works that belong to the first of these lines. We will focus on two historical dramas – Prince Witold (1993) by A. Dudarau and Salomea (1996, new version – 2000) by S. Kawalou. They were written during the third stage of the Belarusian Renaissance, and their main theme is the political struggle for power (Prince Witold) and the life of a woman in those times (Salomea). The leading Austrian historical drama researcher Peter Deutschmann points out that each historical drama has two aspects. On the one hand, it is a source of information about old times, and on the other hand (the researcher even states that it must have) References to the present. The first dimension the researcher described as "presentation" and the second as "representation". Both of the analyzed texts contain these two aspects. This means that these texts will not lose their relevance in the future.
