The aim of this study was to examine the relationships between personality traits (emotional stability and conscientiousness from the Big Five model), smartphone orientation, and insomnia, as well as to verify a mediation model in which smartphone orientation acts as a mediator in the relationship between personality traits and insomnia. The study included 96 participants recruited through convenience sampling using the snowball technique. Three self-report tools were used: the Ten-Item Personality Inventory (TIPI-PL), the Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS), and the Smartphone Orientation Scale (SOS). Hypothesis testing was conducted using Spearman’s rank correlation, multiple linear regression, and a preliminary mediation analysis procedure. The results did not confirm a significant relationship between smartphone orientation and insomnia severity. Emotional stability and conscientiousness emerged as significant predictors of insomnia, whereas they did not significantly predict smartphone orientation. Mediation analysis revealed no significant indirect effect of smartphone orientation in the relationship between the examined personality traits (emotional stability and conscientiousness) and insomnia, confirming only a direct, protective effect of these traits on sleep quality. The results were discussed in the context of Spielman's 3P model, highlighting personality traits as predisposing factors for insomnia. Limitations of the study were noted, including non-random sampling, sample homogeneity, and a relatively small sample size.
