W pracy analizuję, jak serial Kryminalne Zagadki (CBS, 2000–2015), jedna z najpopularniejszych produkcji telewizyjnych w Stanach Zjednoczonych, przedstawia tożsamości rasowe i etniczne. Tekst dzielę na trzy części. Pierwsza z nich dotyczy telewizji jako medium i jego znaczenia w kontekście amerykańskim. W tym celu przyglądam się gatunkowości oraz złożonej telewizji (complex tv). Zwracam też uwagę na wyjątkowy dla początku XXI wieku „efekt CSI”. W drugim rozdziale koncentruję się na reprezentacjach rasowych i wyodrębniam te dominujące w serialu. Podkreślam także rolę chrześcijaństwa w budowaniu struktur amerykańskiego społeczeństwa. Wykorzystuję kategorię stereotypów badając, jak reprezentacje mogą wpływać na interpretowanie złożoności postaci. W ostatnim rozdziale skupiam się na figurach matki, gangstera oraz modelowej mniejszości, badając ich rolę w kreowaniu rasowych narracji. Wykazuję, że postaci „nie–białe” często ograniczane są do stereotypowych ról, co podtrzymuje narracje oparte o krzywdzące uproszczenia. Podsumowując, Kryminalne Zagadki odzwierciedlają społeczne i technologiczne zmiany przełomu XX i XXI wieku, ale często powielają stare schematy.

In this paper, I analyze how the series „Crime Scene Investigation” (CBS, 2000–2015), one of the most popular television productions in the United States, presents racial and ethnic identities. I divide the text into three parts. The first part concerns television as a medium and its significance in the American context. For this purpose, I examine genre and „complex television” (complex TV). I also draw attention to the „CSI effect” unique to the early 21st century. In the second chapter, I focus on racial representations and distinguish those dominating this series. I also emphasize the role of Christianity in building the structures of American society. I use the category of stereotypes to examine how representations can influence the interpretation of character complexity. In the last chapter, I focus on the figures of the mother, the gangster, and the model minority, examining their role in creating racial narratives. I show that „non-white” characters are often limited to stereotypical roles, which sustains narratives based on harmful simplifications. In summary, „Crime Scene Investigation” reflects the social and technological changes of the turn of the 20th and 21st centuries but often repeats old patterns.
