Niniejsza praca koncentruje się na życiu i twórczości Elsy Schiaparelli, włoskiej projektantki działającej w międzywojennym Paryżu. Nakreśla podstawowe zagadnienia związane z przemianami kobiecości w pierwszej połowie XX wieku oraz role mody jako przestrzeni kulturowego eksperymentu. Przedstawiono zarówno historyczny kontekst sytuacji kobiet po I wojnie światowej, jak i relacje surrealistycznej awangardy z wizerunkiem kobiecego ciała. Opisano wybrane projekty Schiaparelli - kolekcję sportową Pour le Sport, realizacje surrealistyczne we współpracy z Dalím i Cocteau oraz strategię koloru Shocking Pink - analizując je w kontekście kulturowych norm kobiecości epoki. Celem pracy jest ukazanie, w jaki sposób twórczość i biografia Schiaparelli odzwierciedlały oraz współtworzyły model nowoczesnej kobiety. Pośrednim celem jest przyjrzenie się autobiografii Shocking Life jako projektowi tożsamościowemu, w którym projektantka posługuje się tymi samymi narzędziami co w swoich projektach: selekcją, iluzją i kontrolą nad własnym wizerunkiem.

This thesis focuses on the life and work of Elsa Schiaparelli, an Italian designer active in interwar Paris. It outlines the basic issues surrounding transformations in femininity in the first half of the twentieth century and the role of fashion as a space for cultural experimentation. It presents both the historical context of women's situation after the First World War and the relationship between the surrealist avant-garde and the image of the female body. Selected Schiaparelli designs are examined - the Pour le Sport sportswear collection, her surrealist collaborations with Dalí and Cocteau, and the Shocking Pink color strategy - analyzing them within the context of the era's cultural norms of femininity. The aim of the thesis is to show how Schiaparelli's work and biography both reflected and helped shape the model of the modern woman. A secondary aim is to examine her autobiography, Shocking Life, as an identity project in which the designer employs the same tools she used in her designs: selection, illusion and control over her own image.
