In 2016 excavations were carried out in three places: western fortifications (to the north of West Gate), southern fortifications (Tower No. 12) and in the eastern part of the extramural settlement. The unearthed section of the western fortifications consisted of a wall dated to the reign of Trajan, a ditch, and a rampart. The rampart footing is dated to the 1st century AD, but pottery fragments found in its upper layers were dated to the 3rd and 5th-6th century AD. At a level of the foundations of the wall, there was a perpendicular construction, possibly a rainwater channel. At a certain section, the wall and the channel were dismantled to the level of the foundations. The unearthed remains of the southern fortifications included the U-shaped tower and a fragment of retaining wall dated to the middle of the 4th century AD. The remains of the tower were covered by a layer containing fragments of building materials, including bricks with LEPIFICOR stamps. Three places were chosen for investigations in the extramural area. All of them were illegal ditches located within the so-called annex of Novae. The remains of a building were unearthed in one of the chosen places. Among finds discovered at an occupation level there was a coin issued during the reign of Septimius Severus.
