The primary objective of the following research was to establish which translation techniques were applied to translate fictional proper names based on the American fantasy novel entitled Elantris. It should be underlined that initially the book was translated in 2007 by Aleksandra Jagiełowicz, and in 2015 the translation required a new version due to the fact that the author, for the tenth anniversary of his debut novel, introduced adjustments in the sheer text. Nonetheless, the revised edition was not translated by the same translator but by Anna Studniarek. Therefore, the study revolves around the comparative analysis of the two translations and assesses the translation solutions, considering various factors. Additionally, the analysis is extended with the examination of adjectives derived from proper names, hence, neologisms as well. The research is preceded by a comprehensive theoretical part regarding a glimpse into translation studies, an overview of proper names, along with the intricacies of fantasy literature. As far as the methodology is concerned, it outlines how the comparative analysis was conducted, encompassing the changes implemented by Brandon Sanderson in the tenth-anniversary edition, the aims of the study, and the gradual process of collecting proper names and their further elaboration. The thesis is concluded with the outcome of the comparative analysis of the two Polish translations in comparison with the original, which is enriched by Anna Studniarek’s remarks addressed during the carried-out interview with the translator. It was found that some of the most frequently employed translation techniques are reproduction and transliteration techniques. Moreover, the primary translation of Elantris necessitated a revised edition even without the modifications made by the author.
