Odbiór podgatunku „body horror” – na wybranych przykładach powieści

Horror to gatunek, którego celem jest wywołanie strachu lub wstrętu u odbiorcy w celach rozrywkowych. Często poruszają mroczną tematykę i mogą zawierać drastyczne sceny. Z biegiem czasu literatura grozy rozwijała się w oparciu o lęki i potrzeby społeczeństw. Body horror to podgatunek, którego głównym zagadnieniem jest ciało ludzkie. W poniższym badaniu przedstawiony został body horror na przykładach z twórczości Grahama Mastertona. Przy wykorzystaniu czterech książek autora badanie obrazuje, jak wygląda zastosowanie motywów tego podgatunku w treści oraz w jaki sposób prace z tego podgatunku zostają wydawane. Przez przeprowadzone wywiady indywidualne praca ma na celu zbadanie recepcji tego typu literatury wśród czytelników. W badaniu poruszana jest tematyka ostrzeżeń przed drastycznymi scenami w literaturze tego rodzaju. Uczestnicy badania wyrażają swoje opinie na temat treści oraz wyglądu poszczególnych wydań książek, a także dzielą się osobistym zdaniem w kwestii wykorzystania trigger warnings.

Horror is a genre that aims to cause fear or revulsion in the viewer for entertainment purposes. It often deals with dark subject matter and may contain violent scenes. Over time, horror literature has evolved based on the fears and needs of societies. Body horror is a sub-genre whose main theme is the human body. The following study presents body horror using examples from the works of Graham Masterton. Using four of the author's books, the study illustrates the use of motifs of this sub-genre in their text and the way in which works from this sub-genre are published. Through individual interviews, the work aims to study the reception of this type of literature among readers. The study addresses warnings against violent scenes in literature of this kind. The participants of the study express their opinions on the literary content and appearance of the specifically chosen editions of the books, as well as share their personal opinion on the use of trigger warnings in horror literature.
