I analyze the relationship between art and the unique experiences of things. When we use things in everyday experience, they become transparent. Things become deprived of their independence; the subject harnesses them for his ends and treats and handles them as useful. But things are never only useful. Things are always intransparent, inaccessible, absurd, useless, worthless and at the same time invaluable. The singularity of things is never directly manifest. The independence of things from the subject is exhibited in the shape of specters. From this perspective, art is not a representation of a thing. Art repeats the experience of the singularity of things.
