Analyse der ausgewählten Übersetzungsprobleme in der Übersetzung der Fragmente von J.R.R. Tolkiens Roman The Hobbit or There and Back Again ins Deutsche

Niniejsza praca licencjacka zawiera analizę wybranych problemów tłumaczeniowych w przekładzie fragmentów powieści „The Hobbit or There and Back Again“ J.R.R. Tolkiena na język niemiecki. Szczególna uwaga została poświęcona porównaniu tłumaczeń zagadek zawartych w rozdziale piątym powieści, „Riddles in the Dark“. W części teoretycznej pracy zostały omówione wybrane aspekty przekładu literackiego, w tym problemy, strategie oraz techniki tłumaczeniowe, a także kryteria oceny przekładu literackiego. Opisane zostały również cechy właściwe powieści fantasy oraz zagadka jako gatunek literacki: jej struktura, klasyfikacja, tematyka oraz funkcje, a także tło historyczno-literackie oraz problemy tłumaczeniowe mogące wystąpić podczas przekładu tego gatunku. Następnie zbadane zostało tłumaczenie tytułu powieści na język niemiecki z uwzględnieniem rodzajów, funkcji oraz metod przekładu tytułów. W części analitycznej niniejszej pracy dokonano porównania trzech wybranych zagadek z powieści: zestawiono oryginał J.R.R. Tolkiena z przekładami dwóch tłumaczy - W. Krege oraz F. Scherfa. Nakreślono także kontekst sytuacyjny wydarzeń rozgrywających się w rozdziale piątym oraz ich umieszczenie w powieści jako całości. Na zakończenie oba przekłady zostały poddane analizie, zgodnie z kryteriami przedstawionymi w części teoretycznej pracy.

This bachelor's thesis contains an analysis of selected translation problems in the translation of fragments of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel „The Hobbit or There and Back Again“ into German. Particular attention has been given to a comparison of the translations of the riddles found in chapter five of the novel, „Riddles in the Dark“. In the theoretical part of this work, selected aspects of literary translation are discussed, including translation problems, strategies and techniques, as well as criteria for evaluating literary translation. Described are also features characteristic of the fantasy novel and the riddle as a literary genre: its structure, classification, subject and functions, as well as the historical and literary background and translation problems that may occur during the translation of this genre. Further, the translation of the title of the novel into German is examined with regard to the types, functions and methods of translation of titles. In the analytical part of this thesis, three selected riddles from the novel are compared: a juxtaposition is made between J.R.R. Tolkien's original and the translations of two translators, W. Krege and F. Scherf. Outlined is also the situational context of the events unfolding in chapter five and their placement in the novel as a whole. Finally, the two translations are analysed according to the criteria presented in the theoretical part of the thesis.

Die vorliegende Bachelorarbeit enthält eine Analyse der ausgewählten Übersetzungsprobleme in Übersetzung der Fragmente von J.R.R. Tolkiens Roman „The Hobbit or There and Back Again“ ins Deutsche. Eine besondere Aufmerksamkeit wurde dabei dem Vergleich der Übersetzungen der Rätsel aus dem fünften Kapitel des Romans, „Riddles in the Dark“, gewidmet. Im theoretischen Teil der Arbeit werden ausgewählte Aspekte der literarischen Übersetzung erörtert, darunter Übersetzungsprobleme, Strategien und Techniken der Übersetzung sowie Kriterien für die Bewertung literarischer Übersetzungen. Außerdem wurden die Merkmale des Fantasy-Romans und des Rätsels als literarischen Gattung beschrieben: seine Struktur, Klassifizierung, Themen und Funktionen sowie der historische und literarische Hintergrund und die Übersetzungsprobleme, die bei der Übersetzung dieses Genres auftreten können. Anschließend wird die Übersetzung des Romantitels ins Deutsche im Hinblick auf die Arten, Funktionen und Methoden der Übersetzung von Titeln untersucht. Der analytische Teil dieser Arbeit vergleicht drei ausgewählte Rätsel aus dem Roman: Das Original von J.R.R. Tolkien wird mit den Übersetzungen von zwei Übersetzern, W. Krege und F. Scherf verglichen. Der situative Kontext der Ereignisse im fünften Kapitel und ihre Platzierung im Roman als Ganzem werden ebenfalls erläutert. Schließlich werden die beiden Übersetzungen anhand der im theoretischen Teil der Arbeit vorgestellten Kriterien analysiert.
