Maria Nowicka (nee Sado)

Maria Nowicka came to Warsaw directly after graduating from high school, to embark on a life of academic studies and her professional career. She dreamed of being a journalist, but was quickly disillusioned with the program of studies being offered at the time in the Faculty of Journalism of the Academy of Political Science, where she enrolled for two semesters (1946-1947). She abandoned journalism in ſavour of ancient history and papyrology at the Faculty of History of the University of Warsaw, where she studied from 1947 lo 1952, attending seminars that locused on the economic history of the classical world and on papyrology, conducted respectively by Professors Marian Małowist and Jerzy Manteuſſel.
