Rola gwary w odbiorze polskiego przekładu „Światłości w sierpniu” Williama Faulknera.

Praca poświęcona jest analizie tłumaczenia powieści „Światłość w sierpniu” Williama Faulknera autorstwa Piotra Tarczyńskiego pod kątem przekładu gwary oraz jej wpływu na odbiór dzieła przez czytelnika. Celem badania było określenie, w jaki sposób wykorzystanie gwary w tekście literackim wpływa na percepcję i przyjemność lektury. Podstawowe pytanie badawcze brzmiało: czy i jak gwara angażuje czytelników oraz czy jej kreatywne tłumaczenie jest uzasadnione. Dla uzyskania odpowiedzi przeprowadzono badanie ankietowe o charakterze ilościowym, w którym udział wzięło 100 respondentów. Ankieta internetowa pozwoliła określić, czy i w jakim stopniu stylizacja gwarowa przekłada się na satysfakcję z lektury. Wyniki badań pokazały, że wykorzystanie gwary w rzeczy samej zwiększa przyjemność czytania, nie stanowiąc jednocześnie bariery w odbiorze tekstu. Rozważania teoretyczne w pracy obejmują m.in. problematykę estetyki odbioru literatury w ujęciu Romana Ingardena, zagadnienia stylistyki gwarowej w literaturze oryginalnej i tłumaczonej oraz techniki przekładu niestandardowych odmian języka według Leszka Berezowskiego. Empiryczna część pracy pozwoliła nie tylko potwierdzić, że gwara zwiększa zaangażowanie czytelnika, ale też wskazała na potrzebę kreatywnego podejścia w tłumaczeniu tego typu elementów. Wnioski te mają znaczenie dla badań nad przekładem literackim, a w szczególności nad tłumaczeniem języka niestandardowego i jego wpływem na estetykę odbioru, ponieważ jednoznacznie wykazują pozytywny wpływ stylizacji gwarowej w tekście przekładu na przyjemność czytania.

This paper analyses Piotr Tarczyński’s translation of William Faulkner’s novel “Light in August”. The translation is characterized by a modern approach to dialectal variations. The research objective of this study was to determine how the use of dialect in a literary text affects readers’ perception and reading enjoyment, based on previously identified translation techniques. The primary research question was: whether and how dialect engages readers, and whether its creative translation is justified. To answer these questions, a quantitative survey was conducted with 100 respondents. The online survey made it possible to determine whether and to what extent dialectal stylization translates into reading satisfaction. The results showed that the use of dialect significantly enhances reading pleasure without posing a barrier to text comprehension. The theoretical discussion in this study covers, among other things, the aesthetics of literary reception as conceptualized by Roman Ingarden, issues of dialectal stylistics in original and translated literature, and techniques for translating non-standard language varieties according to Leszek Berezowski. The empirical part of the study not only confirmed that dialect increases reader engagement but also highlighted the need for a creative approach when translating such elements. These findings are significant for research on literary translation, and in particular on the translation of non-standard language.
