Abstrakt (EN)
The Hungarian word kása means both cereal grains cleaned and husked, whole or rough-ground as well as a meal made from these grains. The aim of this paper is on the one hand to present and study the etymology of the names of different groats used for centuries in the Hungarian culinary (such as barley, millet, buckwheat), and groats becoming very popular nowadays (such as bulgur, couscous, amaranth and quinoa). On the other hand the paper aims to show the names of various meals prepared from them. There are words used in standard language as well as in dialects. The study discusses also proverbs with the lexeme kása ‘groats’ in the Hungarian.
