Historia Zagłady w ujęciu Szymona Datnera i Artura Eisenbacha

Praca analizuje sposoby pisania o Zagładzie obecne w pierwszych powojennych pracach dwóch wybitnych historyków polsko-żydowskich: Szymona Datnera (1902-1989) i Artura Eisenbacha (1906-1992). Poprzez rekonstrukcje i skontrastowanie biografii, w szczególności edukacji i strategii przetrwania Zagłady, praca identyfikuje różne motywy obecne w historiografiach autorów. Celem pracy jest porównanie metodologii, źródeł i ram interpretacyjnych. Tym samym praca klasyfikuje istotne różnice pomiędzy ich warsztatami badawczymi, czyli korzystanie z relacji świadków i ocalałych lub opieranie się na dokumentach wytworzonych przez okupanta, ale i różne sposoby adaptacji w socjalistycznej rzeczywistości. Pytania badawcze obejmują m.in. potencjał wpływu doświadczeń biograficznych na sposób uprawiania historii oraz możliwość tworzenia nauki w upolitycznionej atmosferze stalinizmu. Praca przedstawia również nowe odczytanie monografii Szymona Datnera, przyporządkowując je do gatunku historyczno-literackiego ksiąg pamięci.

The paper analyzes the different styles of writing about the Holocaust present in the first post-war works of two outstanding Polish-Jewish historians: Szymon Datner (1902-1989) and Artur Eisenbach (1906-1992). Through reconstructions and comparisons of their biographies, particularly their education and strategies for surviving the Holocaust, the work identifies various themes present in the authors' historiographies. The aim of the work is to compare methodologies, sources, and interpretative frameworks. Thus, the work classifies the significant differences between their research methods, i.e., the use of eyewitness accounts and survivors' testimonies or reliance on documents produced by the occupier, but also different ways of adaptation in the socialist reality. The research questions include, among others, the potential influence of biographical experiences on the way history is practiced and the possibility of creating science in the politicized atmosphere of Stalinism. The thesis also presents a new reading of Szymon Datner's monograph, classifying it as a historical-literary genre of yizker-bikher.
