Determinants of the intensity of environmental confl icts in Latin America. Statistical perspective

This pilot statistical study analysed several factors that were identifi ed as potential determinants of the intensity of environmental confl icts in selected Latin American countries in 1990-2019. Thanks to the chi-squared test of independence, it was shown that 6 out of 12 variables included in the analysis signifi cantly differentiated the intensity of these confl icts. However, the strength of these relationships – determined on the basis of the Cramér’s V coeffi cient – was usually very weak and only in the case of the type of main confl ict-generating investment could it be assessed slightly higher (as weak).
