Próby wyjaśnienia tragedii. Analiza raportów dotyczących wybranych katastrof w Wielkiej Brytanii w II połowie XX wieku

Poniższa praca zatytułowana „Próby wyjaśnienia tragedii. Analiza raportów dotyczących wybranych katastrof w Wielkiej Brytanii w II połowie XX wieku” stanowi próbę ukazania raportów postkatastrofalnych jako formy reakcji państwa na tragiczne wydarzenia. Omówione zostały trzy przypadki – katastrofa w Aberfan (1966), katastrofa na stacji metra Moorgate (1975) oraz katastrofa na stadionie Hillsborough (1989). Wszystkie analizowane wydarzenia mają charakter antropogeniczny oraz wiążą się z brakiem pełnego rozliczenia winnych, wynikającym z różnych przyczyn. Władze brytyjskie za pośrednictwem zleconych swoim urzędnikom śledztw i powstałych w ich wyniku raportów reagowały na wypadki starając się wyjaśnić ich przyczyny, okoliczności oraz ustalić osoby odpowiedzialne. Jednocześnie dostrzegalna jest trudność w wyciągnięciu konsekwencji wobec winnych. Praca skupia się na analizie raportów oraz przedstawieniu przyczyn, przebiegu i skutków wymienionych katastrof. Podstawę źródłową pracy stanowią przede wszystkim raporty postkatastrofalne, uzupełnione o literaturę naukową o charakterze interdyscyplinarnym. Metoda badawcza skupiała się na analizie źródeł oraz ich porównaniu.

The following thesis, entitled “Attempts to explain tragedy. An analysis of reports on selected disasters in the United Kingdom in the second half of the 20th century,” attempts to present post-disaster reports as a form of state response to tragic events. Three cases are discussed: the Aberfan disaster (1966), the Moorgate tube crash (1975), and the Hillsborough disaster (1989). All the analysed events were anthropogenic in nature and were connected with the lack of full accountability of those responsible, resulting from various causes. Through investigations commissioned from their officials and the reports produced as a result, the British authorities responded to these accidents by attempting to explain their causes and circumstances, as well as to identify those responsible. At the same time, the difficulty of holding the guilty parties accountable is evident. The thesis focuses on analysing the reports and presenting the causes, course, and consequences of the aforementioned disasters. The source basis of the thesis consists primarily of post-disaster reports, supplemented with interdisciplinary scholarly literature. The research method focused on source analysis and comparison.
