Decarbonization policy of the United States in the context of climate change

Decarbonisation Policy of the United States illustrates a profound response in tackling global challenge of climate change and reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. This thesis seeks to provide a profound understanding of evolution of the problem of climate change, its evolution and possible challenges. Starting with the genesis of the concept of decarbonisation policy and its importance in resolving climate change problem, this thesis goes with the historical background of actions of the United States, tracking key milestones, current challenges and policy frameworks. This thesis analyses current decarbonisation proposals at federal and state levels in light of the United States’ promises under various international agreements such as the Paris Agreement. Having looked at different approaches and strategies to achieve reduction of carbon dioxide in a way of transition to renewable energy sources, implementation of new energy standards and enhancements of carbon pricing mechanism, this thesis evaluates current results of the current Administration and previous ones. Therefore, the thesis examines research of the current obstacles, emphasising on political and socio-politic tensions in the United States. Finally, the thesis discusses the future position of the United States in tackling climate changes issues, highlighting the current position and possible action both on government and global levels.
