Włochy-Warszawa. Historia społeczna miasta-dzielnicy w oparciu o biografie wybranych budynków

W pracy podejmuję próbę prześledzenia przebiegu modernizacji Włoch – początkowo podmiejskiego osiedla, następnie miasta, a w końcu centralnego osiedla dzielnicy Włochy miasta stołecznego Warszawy. Istotnym punktem odniesienia dla zachodzących zmian staje się więc modernizacja samej Warszawy, a jednym z przedmiotów analizy – zmieniająca się relacja Włoch i Warszawy. Opowieść o modernizacji miasta-dzielnicy buduję w oparciu o wywiady narracyjne z mieszkańcami Włoch, w ramach których odtwarzamy biografie należących do nich budynków. Zmiany zachodzące w przestrzeni budynków traktuję jako materialny zapis historii ostatniego stulecia i punkt wyjścia do rozwijania pozostałych zagadnień, które zawierają się w tej pracy, nadając jej szerszy kontekst. W pracy interesuje mnie procesualność i różnego rodzaju zmiany, między innymi w zakresie: idei miastotwórczych i sposobów rozumienia pojęcia własności nieruchomości, preferowanych typów zabudowy i sposobów zamieszkiwania, infrastruktury, dostępu do urządzeń komunalnych i warunków mieszkaniowych oraz codziennego życia mieszkańców Włoch.

In this thesis, I attempt to trace the course of the modernization of Włochy – initially a suburban settlement, later a town, and ultimately a central neighborhood of the Włochy district in the capital city of Warsaw. The modernization of Warsaw itself thus becomes a crucial point of reference for the changes taking place, and one of the subjects of analysis is the evolving relationship between Włochy and Warsaw. The narrative of the modernization of this city-district is constructed on the basis of narrative interviews with Włochy residents, through which we reconstruct the biographies of the buildings they inhabit. I treat the changes occurring in the spatial form of these buildings as a material record of the past century's history, and as a starting point for developing the broader themes explored in this thesis. My focus is on processuality and various types of transformations, including shifts in city-building ideas and concepts of property ownership, preferred building typologies and forms of dwelling, infrastructure, access to public utilities and housing conditions, as well as the everyday lives of Włochy residents.
