Solidarność: znaczenie w historii idei i funkcje w życiu publicznym

Rozprawa Solidarność: znaczenie w historii idei i funkcje w życiu publicznym to podróż w czasie i przestrzeni po różnych wymiarach kształtowania się pojęcia solidarność. Metodologiczne ramy analiz nadała jej tradycja Szkoły Lwowsko-Warszawskiej, a szczególnie analizy norm i wartości opracowane przez Marię Ossowską. Celem moich badań jest, po pierwsze, wskazanie semantycznego pola solidarności, jej różnych znaczeń, interpretacji historycznych i kontekstowych. Po drugie, związków tego pojęcia z ideami bliskoznacznymi, takimi jak przyjaźń i braterstwo. Perspektywa antenatów solidarności została uzupełniona o siostrzeńtwo jako feministyczne odkrywanie wspólnoty i współpracy. Po trzecie, traktuję solidarność nie tylko jako więź ale również uczucie; to wartość gorąca angażująca postawy emocjonalne takie jak miłość, troska, empatia. Wreszcie, po czwarte, solidarność, stanowi również zasadę współobecną w koncepcjach kapitału społecznego czy idei subsydiarności i w tej roli ma charakter racjonalny. Zrozumienie tych wszystkich znaczeń i funkcji solidarności jest ważne w sensie nie tylko teoretycznym, ale i praktycznym. Mylenie pojęć, zacieranie semantycznych różnic między nimi skutkuje – w moim przekonaniu – ich obniżonym znaczeniem w praktyce życia codziennego. W Polsce solidarność nadal kojarzy się z historycznym ruchem „Solidarności”; jako taka jest wpisana w kalendarz rocznicowy, jak również w misję organizacji trzeciego sektora. Jednak rola, jaką solidarność może i powinna odgrywać w sferze publicznej wydaje mi się daleko szersza. Praca ma to wykazać. Jej zakończenie stanowi propozycja spojrzenia na solidarność jako wartość przezwyciężającą etykę kodeksową, deontologiczną, która zdaje się dziś tracić na znaczeniu, ale nie ograniczam też jej roli do funkcji emotywnych, związanych z etyką troski. Solidarność ma szersze znaczenie: prywatne, publiczne, międzyludzkie. W ostatecznej definicji, będącej klamrą całości rozważań, moja propozycja jest analogiczna do Arystotelesowskiej koncepcji przyjaźni.

A thesis on Solidarity: importance in the history of ideas and functions in public life is a journey in time and space to various dimensions of the concept of solidarity. The methodological framework of analyses arose from the Lviv-Warsaw School, in particular from the analysis of standards and values developed by Maria Ossowska. The aim of my research is, first and foremost, to identify the semantic field of “solidarity”, its various meanings as well as historical and contextual interpretations. Secondly – the relationship of this concept with synonymous ideas, such as friendship and brotherhood. The prospect of solidarity ancestors has been supplemented by sisterhood as a feminist discovery of unity and cooperation. Thirdly, solidarity is regarded not only as a bond, but also as a feeling; it is a value strongly connected with emotional concepts such as love, care and empathy. Finally, fourthly, solidarity is also a principle that is present in the concepts of social capital or subsidiarity. Within this context, it is rational. Understanding of all these meanings and functions of solidarity is important not only in a theoretical sense but also in a practical one. The confusion of concepts, blurring the distinction between semantic differences, in my view, results in their reduced significance in everyday life. In Poland, solidarity continues to be associated with the historic movement of the same name: ‘Solidarity’. Therefore, it appears in that form in the anniversary calendar and it is a part of the mission of the third sector organisation. However, the role that solidarity can and should play in the public sphere, in my opinion, appears to be far broader. This thesis is to prove that. Its conclusion comes in a form of a proposal to look at solidarity as a value that overcomes the code ethics, deontological ethics, which seems to be losing its importance today, but I also do not limit its role to emotional functions related to the ethics of care. The idea of solidarity encapsulates a wider meaning: private, public and interpersonal. In the final definition, which encompasses all solutions, my proposal is similar to the Aristotelian concept of friendship.
