El problema de la traducción de género a partir de la película Barbie y sus traducciones al español y al polaco

Sposób, w jaki mówią kobiety i mężczyźni, jest uwarunkowany przez ich postrzeganie świata oraz obowiązujące w nim hierarchie i normy. Koncepty takie jak zakorzeniony w kulturze patriarchat oraz powstały w konsekwencji ruch feministyczny wpływają nie tylko na sposób myślenia i zachowanie, lecz również na język używany przez przedstawicieli obu płci. Celem niniejszej pracy jest wyodrębnienie cech wspomnianych typów języka – kobiecego i męskiego – na podstawie podpisów z filmu Barbie (2023) w języku angielskim, a następnie analiza ich tłumaczeń na język hiszpański w wariancie europejskim i latynoamerykańskim oraz na język polski, w kontekście tłumaczenia feministycznego. Pierwszy rozdział koncentruje się na fenomenie filmu oraz przedstawieniu głównych postaci, tworząc tym samym zarys kluczowych punktów fabuły. Drugi rozdział stanowi przegląd historii tłumaczenia feministycznego oraz głównych technik, które są w nim wykorzystywane. Rozdziały trzeci i czwarty poświęcone są, odpowiednio, analizie wybranych przykładów dyskursu kobiecego i męskiego oraz ich tłumaczeń. Natomiast piąty rozdział przedstawia dodatkowe sformułowania z filmu, które są potencjalnie najciekawsze pod względem lingwistycznym. Każde tłumaczenie zostało przebadane z wykorzystaniem słowników w celu zidentyfikowania strategii zastosowanych w procesie przekładu.

The way women and men speak is determined by their perceptions of the world, as well as by the hierarchies and norms that govern it. Concepts such as the culturally ingrained patriarchy and the feminist movement that emerged as a consequence influence not only the way of thinking and behaving, but also the language used by representatives of both sexes. The purpose of this thesis is to distinguish the characteristics of the mentioned types of language – feminine and masculine – based on the English subtitles of the movie “Barbie” (2023), and then to analyze their translations into the European and Latin American variants of Spanish, and into Polish, in the context of feminist translation. The first chapter focuses on the phenomenon of the movie and the introduction of the main characters, thus creating an outline of the key points of the plot. The second chapter provides an overview of the history of feminist translation and the main techniques used in it. The third and fourth chapters are devoted to the analysis of selected examples of female and male discourse, respectively, along with their translations. The fifth chapter presents additional formulations from the movie that are potentially the most interesting from a linguistic perspective. Each translation was examined using dictionaries to identify the strategies employed in the translation process.

La forma de hablar de mujeres y hombres está condicionada por sus percepciones del mundo, así como por las jerarquías y normas que lo rigen. Conceptos como el patriarcado, culturalmente arraigado, y el movimiento feminista que surgió como consecuencia de este, influyen no solo en el pensamiento y el comportamiento de las personas, sino también en el lenguaje utilizado por ambos sexos. El objetivo de esta tesis es distinguir las características de los tipos de lenguaje mencionados –femenino y masculino– a partir de los subtítulos en inglés de la película “Barbie” (2023), para posteriormente analizar sus traducciones a las variantes europea y latinoamericana del español y al polaco, en el contexto de la traducción feminista. El primer capítulo se centra en el fenómeno de la película y en la presentación de las y los personajes principales, creando así un esquema de los puntos clave de la trama. El segundo capítulo ofrece una visión general de la historia de la traducción feminista y de las principales técnicas utilizadas en ella. Los capítulos tercero y cuarto, respectivamente, están dedicados al análisis de ejemplos seleccionados de discurso femenino y masculino, así como de sus traducciones. El quinto capítulo, por su parte, presenta formulaciones adicionales presentes en la película que son potencialmente las más interesantes desde el punto de vista lingüístico. Cada traducción se ha examinado utilizando diccionarios para identificar las estrategias empleadas en el proceso de traducción.
