Tematem pracy jest ukazanie dwóch modeli kreacji postaci kobiecych w Dumie i uprzedzeniu Jane Austen oraz Ślubach panieńskich Aleksandra Fredry. Praca podzielona została na trzy rozdziały. Pierwszy z nich przedstawia kanon kobiety idealnej w pierwszej połowie XIX wieku oraz bada, jak archetyp kobiety-anioła był realizowany w epoce regencji i romantyzmu na przykładach Jane Bennet i Anieli. Szczególna uwaga została zwrócona na pożądane przez społeczeństwo zachowania oraz cechy charakteru, czyli: uległość, skromność, posłuszeństwo oraz powściągliwość. Drugi rozdział ukazuje przykłady konwenansów, z którymi Elizabeth i Klara polemizują, celowo naginając normy społeczne podczas balów, wizyt gości, prowadzenia rozmów czy samotnych spacerów. Ostatnia partia tekstu skupia się na instytucji małżeństwa oraz różnych perspektywach jego postrzegania. Konfrontując podejście Elizabeth i Klary z tradycyjnym spojrzeniem starszego pokolenia, ujawnia się konflikt pokoleń, prowadzący do wzajemnego niezrozumienia. Porównawcze zestawienie Austen i Fredry ukazuje ewolucję kobiecej tożsamości od pełnego podporządkowania po pierwsze myśli autonomiczne. Takie ujęcie problemu stanowi polifoniczną panoramę literackiego obrazu kobiety.

The topic of the thesis is to show two models of the creation of female characters in Jane Austen's “Pride and Prejudice” and Alexander Fredro's “Maiden Vows”. The work is divided into three chapters. The first presents the canon of the ideal woman in the first half of the nineteenth century and examines how the archetype of the angelic woman was realised in the Regency and Romantic eras using Jane Bennet and Aniela as examples. Particular attention is paid to socially desirable behaviour and character traits, namely: submissiveness, modesty, obedience and restraint. The second section shows examples of the conventions with which Elizabeth and Klara argue, deliberately bending social norms when attending balls, visiting guests, holding conversations or walking alone. The final part of the text focuses on the institution of marriage and the different perspectives on its perception. By contrasting Elizabeth and Klara's approach with the traditional view of the older generation, the conflict of generations is revealed, leading to mutual misunderstanding. The comparative juxtaposition of Austen and Fredro shows the evolution of female identity from complete subordination to the first autonomous thoughts. This treatment of the problem provides a polyphonic panorama of the literary image of woman.
