Abstrakt (EN)

This paper explains what femicide is, by giving a historical background of the term and a walkthrough of the main legislature regarding the topic in Latin America. It explains that it is a cultural and social phenomenon and not only a type of homicide, by explaining the context in which these crimes happen and how stereotypes and social context allow for their continuation and repetition. Furthermore, an analysis of the main public policies of Mexico regarding femicide and gender-based violence and comparing them to Argentina aims to identify the strengths and deficiencies. The objective is to understand better what can be done to improve the number of femicides in Mexico, where 10 women each day are killed because of their gender.
