Although the concept of sustainable development in the 70s and 80s was based entirely on the evaluation and level of protection of the natural environment, discussions on environmental changes and their impact on the quality of human life, led to the extension of the concept with a social perspective. Currently, for the social, political and territorial management sciences, this concept is crucial for the analysis of the urban question. For this reason, this research reflects on the importance of the implementation of the concept of sustainable development for urban planning, which allows solving contemporary problems such as climatic consequences, the growth of urbanized lands, the expansion of low-density settlements. population, mobility and transportation, or management of services by local governments.
