Celem niniejszej pracy jest analiza cyklu Mszy świętych w intencji Ojczyzny, odprawianych przez bł. ks. Jerzego Popiełuszkę w Warszawie. Praca przedstawia zarówno proces przygotowywania nabożeństw, jak i zaangażowanie środowisk robotniczych oraz artystycznych, które odegrały istotną rolę w ich oprawie i przebiegu. Omówiono szczegółowo strukturę liturgii oraz jej cechy charakterystyczne, zwracając uwagę na elementy wyróżniające te msze na tle innych praktyk religijnych tamtego okresu. Jednym z kluczowych aspektów analizy jest treść homilii ks. Jerzego – wskazano główne tematy, które pojawiały się w jego kazaniach, sposób ich formułowania oraz kontekst i cel odwołań do konkretnych osób lub wydarzeń. The aim of this thesis is to analyze the cycle of Holy Masses for the Homeland celebrated by Blessed Father Jerzy Popiełuszko in Warsaw. The work presents both the process of preparing the services and the involvement of workers’ and artistic communities, which played a significant role in shaping the character and course of these celebrations. The structure of the liturgy and its distinctive features are discussed in detail, with particular attention given to the elements that set these Masses apart from other religious practices of that period.

One of the key aspects of the analysis is the content of Father Jerzy’s homilies — the main themes appearing in his sermons, the way they were formulated, as well as the context and purpose behind references to specific individuals or events are highlighted. The work also addresses how the content of the sermons evolved over time.

An important part of the thesis is the discussion of the decorations and recitations that accompanied the liturgies. It analyzes the motifs of the works used, their connection with the themes of the homilies, the cyclical nature of certain decorative elements, and the role they played in communicating with the faithful. The paper also includes opinions from participants of the Masses for the Homeland as well as from Father Popiełuszko himself, offering insight into the significance of these events for the congregation.

The thesis also explores the consequences of Father Jerzy’s celebration of the Masses for the Homeland. It examines the impact on his relationship with Cardinal Józef Glemp and the growing interest from the Security Service. The operational actions taken against the priest are described, which intensified over time and ultimately led to the tragic end of his mission.
