La création de l'espace dans les romans de Michel Houellebecq : Plateforme et Sérotonine

Niniejsza praca analizuje rolę przestrzeni w powieściach Platforma i Serotonina Michela Houellebecqa. W pierwszym rozdziale omówiona została opozycja Paryż-Tajlandia widoczna w Platformie, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem sposobu, w jaki obie przestrzenie ‒ w tym liczne „nie-miejsca” nowoczesności ‒ kształtują doświadczenie alienacji i utopii u Houellebecqa. Drugi rozdział bada kontrast między Paryżem a Normandią w Serotoninie, ukazując wieś jako przestrzeń pamięci, kryzysu społecznego i projekcji emocjonalnych bohatera. Analiza pokazuje, że u Houellebecqa przestrzeń służy zilustrowaniu kondycji współczesnego społeczeństwa.

This master thesis examines the role of space in Michel Houellebecq’s novels Platform and Serotonin. The first chapter discusses the Paris-Thailand opposition in Platform, with particular attention to how both spaces ‒ including the numerous modern “non-places” ‒ shape Houellebecq’s experience of alienation and utopia. The second chapter analyses the contrast between Paris and Normandy in Serotonin, presenting the countryside as a space of memory, social crisis, and the protagonist’s emotional projections. The analysis shows that, in Houellebecq’s work, space serves to illustrate the condition of contemporary society.

Le présent mémoire analyse le rôle de l’espace dans les romans Plateforme et Sérotonine de Michel Houellebecq. Le premier chapitre examine l’opposition Paris-Thaïlande dans Plateforme, en accordant une attention particulière à la manière dont ces deux espaces ‒ y compris les nombreux « non-lieux » de la modernité ‒ façonnent l’expérience de l’aliénation et de l’utopie chez Houellebecq. Le deuxième chapitre étudie le contraste entre Paris et la Normandie dans Sérotonine, en montrant la campagne comme un espace de mémoire, de crise sociale et de projections émotionnelles du protagoniste. L’analyse montre que, chez Houellebecq, l’espace sert à illustrer la condition de la société contemporaine.
