Euro later – a loss or an adventage?
Euro later – a loss or an adventage?
Abstrakt (EN)
It is probably in the wake of the financial crisis that an opinion recently emerged in Poland, concluding with much emphasis how fortunate we are that neither our country nor other ones in the region managed to access to the eurozone over recent years, but retained their own monetary policies, based, among other things, upon floating exchange rate. This allegedly saved them from economic disaster or at least from profound depression. The Authors of this article argue, using qualitative analysis tools, that neither the accession to the eurozone nor preparation of national economy to introduction of euro actually worked or has to work to the detriment of a country over the period of the financial crisis. Moreover, retaining monetary sovereignty is very costly and sometimes may act as barrier to economic development and expose a country to various types of shocks, including speculative ones.
